Order of Battle: War on Terrorism
Note: The 25th Infantry Division initially deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq in the winter of 2004, while still under the division-centric organization. In 2005 the 25th underwent a transformation to better facilitate the conduct of operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The transformation resulted in a brigade-centric organization of six independent elements consisting of a division headquarters, four brigade combat teams and combat aviation brigade. As independent elements, the division headquarters and the brigades are/were awarded participation credit for campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq based on the dates of each element’s deployment as shown below. For personnel, participation credit for a specific campaign is recognized by the affixing of a bronze campaign star on the relevant campaign ribbon and medal. A silver campaign star is used instead of five bronze stars. At the unit level it is recognized by affixing to the unit flag either an Afghanistan or an Iraq Campaign Streamer embroidered with the name of the relevant campaign. For additional information on the Tropic Lightning’s reorganization and participation in the Afghanistan and Iraq campaigns see The Division. | |
