Anyone out there involved in the big fight 4 March, 69, would like to hear what you remember of it-250 NVA bit the dust and 27 functioning machine guns captured. If you were there I was in the Stinger gunship firing the miniguns into that wall of tracers coming out of the woodlot. Not a good day, but your commander on our C&C ship knew how to control a battle. A lot of us are still here because of him.

Comments: Hello,

I'm writing this to let you know what Toyota Motors Manufacturing thinks about our American Veterans.

I work at the Toyota plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. We build the Camry, Avalon and Sienna Van. We are required to work several Saturdays a year to keep up with orders.

This years Saturday schedule was posted and it was brought to Toyota's attention that they had scheduled a Saturday production day for opening day of deer season in Kentucky. Well guess what? They cancelled that Saturday and rescheduled it for, drum roll, Veterans Day!

Being the son of a veteran this sickens me. I would like you to let your members know of the dishonor and uncaring action shown by Toyota to them and their fallen brothers and sisters.

I wouldn't buy a vehicle made by Toyota on Veterans Day and I think that would be a good message to send out to all of your members and friends. Let Toyota and other businesses know how we feel about Veterans Day. It is a day of remembrance and paying honor to veterans everywhere. It is not a day to turn a profit.

Thanks

Steve Vincent

Comments: A buddy of my father, Ed Apodaca, is ill. Eddie was in the 3/4 Cav 25th Infantry and was in Veitnam in 1966. He was known as the Angry Apache. Eddie contracted Hepatitus C during a blood transfusion many years ago. The disease has attacked his liver and we do not know how much longer he will be with us. He is not able to do as much as he used to, like teaching boxing to area youths. Eddie and his wife Theresa have four children and several grandchildren. If you have a moment to drop Eddie a note or a card, I know he'd appreciate it. Our families have visited each other several times and my parents just spent several days with them a couple weeks ago. Eddie is in good spirits as he always is. Thank you.

Comments: Still looking for CSM James C. Williams, two tours w/25th. My Plt. Sgt. in "B" 1/35th, Jim, phone the platoon HQ.

And now... my 21?2 cents worth on reunions, the topic of the month. I recently attended a reunion in AZ of my close friends from the Division, from various units. A great time and glad I was there to provide adult supervision to this group of basically retired Colonels etc, a great small reunion. I am in the Confederate Air Force, where we have members mainly from WWII, but some also from Korea and more joining from the RVN era. One, Col. Bruce Wallace [Army Ret.] served in all three. I treasure knowing all these people and hearing their stories of what it was like flying B-17's over Germany, what it was like freezing at Chosin Reservoir and of course new stories of the Vietnam experience; we all have our own stories but the comraderie is the same no matter our age or branch of service. I am looking forward to attending the next 25th Divison reunion to share in more of this diversity of experiences. I hope to see folks not only from the 1/35th, but also from other units, other wars.
God Bless

Comments: Now that the dust is settling from all flack over who, what when and why we go to the reunions, I would like to add my 2 cents.
Spokane was a wonderful time, met new friends and saw a part of the country that was just beautiful.
The cost was kept down do to not having too many "hounds" around. Saved on the cost of Alpo, Vets fees {hang overs}, pooper scooper service{B.S} and dog handlers, and ear plugs for my favorite Hound from tampa bay who could not attend. All the above has been sent to St.Louis for your reunion. May it be as great my was.
All in jest I did miss a lot of the regulars. You just can't make'em all.
I have been attending the reunions since "84 and have met many wonderful people over the years.I could attend the 4/9 and 2/12 reunions, but my schedual does not permit it.I find it interresting to meet those pilots who flew us out and delivered the food and the guys who fueled up the choppers and the truck drivers and so on down the line WE ALL SERVED we are the lucky ones who can go to reunions and remember those 59,000 who will never.
Just go to a reunion of some kind if you are able.
God Bless all 25th warriors.

Comments: I just returned from a company sized reunion, (B 3/22) from July 18 thru July 20. We have a group of over 600 guys who served in Vietnam between September 1966 to April 1971. In attendance at our reunion was 110 Vets as well as 150 family and friends. We have reunions every two years. Since there is only so much money available for reunions, it makes sense that the guys will spend it on the reunion which offers them the greatest opportunity to re-connect with the guys they served with in Vietnam. I, as a lifetime member of the 25th Infantry Division Association, do not have an answer, maybe we should change to bi-annual reunions. I do hope to be able to attend the next 25th Division Reunion in Hawaii. Given a choice to attend a 25th Division Reunion or a B Company 3/22 Reunion, I'm afraid that I would choose to attend the B Company Reunion.

We are going to try that this next year in Hawaii. I have asked Butch Sincock if this will be possible even though he is no longer President he still has the connection. I don't have Russ our new Pres. and fine gentleman's email address.
we the 2/12th will test the water in Hawaii. All 2/12th soldiers plan on being there and a get together somewhere at the Hotel or elsewhere if that is not possible. I will keep you posted. There have been a few neg. responses from those in the east but the nice thing is the reunions are typically moved across the country for accessability to everyone at some time. The other nice thing is that activities and tours are always planned and for some smaller reunions that can be difficult. For me just being with my old comrades is enough. God Bless old Doc

Comments: Just surfed in and saw your on going discussion of Division vs. "mini-reunions". I am a member of the 22nd IRS and the 4th "IVY" division association. How would units like the 22nd get together, when at various times members served with different divisions. This is a result of the Army splintering the regiments - Not the regimental societies. I am very proud of the 22nd infantry regiment and it's history. Most of which (From WWII until August, 1967) was under the colors of the 4th div. I do agree that these things can be splintered too far. And I agree with the comment made that we should not divide by time of service or whether or not someone fought in a specific war or served in peace time. All who "stood the watch" served well. I served with 2/22 4th div. from 12/65 (Fort Lewis) until 05/67 (Dau Tieng). I occassionally check your guest book to see if any of my former comrades who went on to serve in the 25th division have logged in. You were a fine division in Vietnam. You have a rich history, and a fine organization.

Comments: Concerning the reunions and the conflicts: Why not combine all the reunions at one location or at least as close as possible, each unit can have a room to conduct meetings of their own units with the hospitality room being that of the 25th, with each unit having its own table or area . This way you have your needs of unity but also can meet with others who were there in other units. This may have problems but should at least be discussed. It may take alot of hard work but it can be done if we put our minds together and talk. If we work together we can conquer anything, alone we face defeat.

Comments: Mike is very good at communicating the positive side of the Association's reunions. If you have no financial burdens, annual reunions provide the most positive way of influencing current and future alumni of the 25th Div. Is the diminishing turnout at the annual reunion caused by other factors then mini-reunions? How many fellow grunts do you know who are now on VA fixed incomes and still raising a family? How many do you know who are still insular from PTSD and can't bring themselves to come. Is the real danger to the Association from Regimental Chapters, mini-reunions or from in-the-box thinking? What is the Association doing to increase membership, and what is it doing for its members, besides providing the annual reunion? What do 25th Alumni, association members or not, want from the association? What is the association doing to meet the challenges of fewer alumni from which to draw members? Out Here.

Comments: This to address Tim White's comment. The irony of this is that the person I was talking about this problem with is from his unit, a one Stuart Simonson from Iowa. He had attended this years reunion in Spokane and became aware of the deminshing attendance,in his talks with another one of the guys named Bill who helps put together the 3/22 reunions. Bill had remarked to Stuart that maybe that they were just as responsible as anyone else in the low turn out,by holding their separate reunions, there by contributing to a lower attendance to the Division Association conventions (reunions). The 25th Division took the highest casualties of the Vietnam War over 28,000 that is 5,000 more than the 1st Cav. Seventy percent by small arms fire. Yes we fought as individual units, but the entire AO (area of operation) belonged to the division. If called upon we would help each others units in a heart beat. It was our divisions responsibilty with very little outside help to protect the approches to Saigon. Maybe it's because I deployed with the division from Hawaii that I feel this way, I don't know. I know I have made many friends over the years who are not Wolfhouds and are association members and I don't see them anymore because they attend their unit reunions, because they can't afford to go to both.I know the need to be with guys we served with as we were together in battle and misery, but it was no different then yours or anyone elses who had to endure the unendurable. Stuart brought up an excellent idea about accomadating the individual units.By displaying unit insignias around a large hospitality room where unit members can gather and keeping the center as no mans land where guys can come together from the different units to socialize guys from other units. I truly understand your need to be with others from your unit, because at one time I would not talk to anyone who was not a Wolfhound and specifically 1966 Hound as the war ended for me then and in mind so did the action, certainly you can correct me on that can't you? The Division Association is the whole and the units its parts, the parts can never equal the whole and without the parts there can be no whole. There is an answer, but we have to work at it for the good of all to find a solution that can be accomadating to the needs of the parts. Some people think that the Wolfhouds get to much attention, but in reality it's me I do a lot of howling at reunions and if you must know why well it's because I lost many friends I went to Vietnam with and through my howling they are there with me once more
Over the years I have heard WWII Stories and Korean War stories and enjoyed being with the story tellers an laughing with them.At one of our (my wife)early reunions we attended my wife asked a WWII vets wife how she can stand hearing these stories from year to year to which the vets wife answered honey listen to their stories and it changes a little from year to year as the stories are embellished over a period of time.I learned one thing over the years and that is if you listen to some ones stories he will listen to yours regarles of whitch war or unit they are from. Let's work toward a solution to satisfy all our needs. After all we all wore the "Lighting" patch proudly and lets party together proudly. Sincerely Mike Moschkin

Comments: Just a comment regarding the 25th Infantry reunion comments made by others earlier. I am proud to have served in the 25th Infantry Division. But, due to finances and family commitments, I'm one of those who has to make a choice: my unit reunion, my Regimental reunion, or the Division reunion. Because I'm looking for buddies I served with, and because I'm basically restricted to one reunion, I'm naturally going to choose my unit, which was Co. C 3rd Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment, which has it's own reunions separate from the 22nd Infantry Regiment reunions. For me there really is no choice, although Hawaii would be very tempting. I need to be with the guys with whom I served, not strangers (not meant to be as cold as it sounds). I don't mix well and would be very uncomfortable in a group of people I probably wouldn't know. I have no answer for how to be part of all three reunions. Anyone else want to try?

You know though the guys who were in the 1st Cav. or the 101st or any other unit have just as much right to stick out their chest and say they were in the best unit too! We all know we kicked ass and didn't care about takin' names then. I haven't made a reunion yet, but plan to make it to Hawaii next year, since it is supposed to start on my birthday(the 1003 in my e-mail address). Comments: Mike Moschkin did well with his message below. I talk with fellow Golden Dragons on a daily basis. Candidly speaking, there is a lot more movement in the 1/14th towards Platoon reunions, then even towards a Regimental Chapter, let alone Division affiliation. I believe that the Internet has contributed to this decentralization. I don't have to wait a full year to talk with a Bro. I don't even need to pay for a long distance call. I am not the only one! Secondly, and bluntly, no one wanted to go to Spokane, with Honolulu coming up next year. Thirdly, life has become filled with more commitments. I, and others, question annual reunions!! This needs to be addressed above my pay grade, I am only the messenger. Last, but certainly not least, please remember this, many of us didn't fight as a Division, we fought and died individually, as Recon Teams, or Platoons. The healing that comes to those who need it, is the words and nearness of a Brother who shared the terror, the pain, and the life of unknown emotions that seperated many of us from the world around us forever! The Association needs to take a good look at itself, and where its members are coming from. Recon, 1/14th, 1966.

Comments: I'd like to comment on the most recent 25th ID reunion in Spokane,Wa. I am sorry I missed it, however it seems that a lot of other people missed it also and that is what I'd like to take this opportunity to comment on. It appears that our division association has fragmented itself over the past years into unit chapters.Having chapter reunions instead of attending the annual division get together. We all are proud members of individual units within the association and apparently at the cost of the overall 25th Division Association with its deminshing attendance. It is a serious problem that should be addressed at individual and chapter levels. The overall attendance at reunions had increased over a number of years since I first joined the association in 1982 at the dedication of the Vietnam Memorial. Where we young vets as we were called by the likes of Carmine Cusimano,Joe Grasso,Bob Muzzy,Bill Schumaker and Bud Murry who welcomed us with open arms. Yes there was a little inter unit rivalry, but at a humorus level. It now appears the inter unit rivalry is how many can we get out to the individual unit reunions as opposed to how many we can get out to the division reunion and get a recognisation from the association at large as having the most in attendance. We war time vets are forgetting our peace time vets, when soldiering is tougher with out an apparent enemy. It is with great saddness that I watch all this splintering through units and then by wars. Where is that 25th ID spirit that I readily joined? When given a choice between marching with the New Jersey contingent in the Welcome Home parade (in 1982) and the 25th Division, I chose the 25th because I said I didn't serve with New Jersy in Vietnam, but I served with the 25th Division. Over the years I always strove to make the 25th larger in numbers and as division with proud members, as I learned my pride from the WWII members who made us so welcome. As a division association members we should be attending the renuions and rubbing shoulders with each age group as we share the "Pride" of being 25th Tropic Lighting members, who are proud to have served in the Greatest Fighting Division in the U.S. Army and not just because of our deeds in war but also in peace time as well. Over the years I have made friends with many people from different units and wars. I learned the fears I had were not uncommon no matter what our surroundings were. The feelings in the pit of ones stomach about moving up in the face of enemy fire are the same no matter where we were. I still have some lingering guilt that I feel about what I should have done or could have done in a far off war. But those are some of our commonness that we have, the biggest of all being fellow members of a very proud Division whose legacy has been etched out in the blood of our fallen comrades. I hope we can come to some kind of consenus before the association becomes a shell sort of to speak.
Thank you Mike Moschkin Co A 1/27th Wolfhounds 25th Infantry Division 3/65-12/66

Comments: I am in the process of trying to research information about my father's tour of duty in Vietnam. The information is needed to assist in obtaining his VA Compensation. He was in the 3rd BN 13th Field Artillery HQ Battery 25th Infantry Division. His tour in Vietnam was some time around March 1966 to September 1966. My father's name is Robert L. Coleman. I am specifically interested in any information or recollections of a visit by General Westmoreland to the troops during this time frame (possiblly between June - August 1966). Specifically, a mortar attack that occured directly after General Westmoreland's visit. Secondly, If anyone remembers a convoy that was attacked on April 5, 1966 in the Ho Bo Woods, I would like to correspond with you also. My father was TDY to that A/2/27 convoy when it was attacked. Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Comments: I am the younger sister of a 25th Infantry Vietnam vet that was KIA in Vietnam 4/10/67 in Cu Chi. His name is James Herbert Edwards, and he was an E5 correspondent. My husband and son are both currently in the Air Force, and I am very proud of the reasons that each of them chose to join the military, but I believe our own government is trying to kill them with their own rules and regulations (not to mention the lies they are fed).

I am very glad that I found this website. There is an Anthrax website that I visit frequently to keep tabs on what is going on with who is doing what to our loved ones, but now that I've found this website, I'll visit often as well.

Many thanks for the opportunity to voice my own thoughts. I am very interested in hearing from anyone that may have served with my brother or may otherwise be able to relate to anything that I have printed here.

Comments: iwas with the 9th ID, at dong tam 9th infantry division basecamp. we were notified in about 14 days that the whol 9th ID was standing down, destination unknown, only that we were going home.
it was only within 5 to 7 days that we were told we were heade to HAWAII, no way not the army, our whole 9th infantry division headed to fantasy island.
the old timers said we probably would form up the 25th ID as they would be the next unit to head home.
we left in a cloud of booze and a dream to good to be true. as we landed we all thought we would be unnoticed but the Hawaiian people really took us in and put up with us, as we transfered into the 100 bn / 442 inf NG , for about 45 days till they brouught the colors home of the 25th ID.
our whole brigade of the mobile riverine force fit into B quad and it was only then that we knew how many we had left behind, as a normal quad building fits a BN, and here we were a infantry brigade, trying to squeeze into place.
We had allot of awol's and seperation's as we learned all over to do drill and ceromonies, PT, and basic soldering.
allot of the soldiers went on 3 day passes that turned into 2 and 3 week leaves to only GOD, knows where.
most of us that got any time off spent time in bars and hotel street looking for buddies that vanished as it was a very hard transition from walking combat patrols in the swamps, to laying on the beaches in just a few hours for most of us.
it was more than the brain could comprhend, as i remember just setting in the surf in the north shore area for 6 months just trying to get rid of the ring worm, and other bacteria that we could not lose in the swamp's of the mekong delta.
i would just like to say as i regard my good mental condition today to coming home from nam to Hawaii, for 2 years, as and adjustment period that i needed to leaving hell on earth, to landing in fantasy island, and without allot of patience of the Hawaiian people most of us are able today to say ,THANKS and ALOHA.

Comments: Hello,
I'm signing your guest book in loving memory of my Father, William C. LaBozetta Lt. Col. Ret, whom I believe served in your 25th MP Co. in both Japan and Korea. He died last February of congestive heart failure and declining health; he did not suffer long. He was well into his 80's, alert, and still very proud and prosperous. If anyone knows anything about my Father or can forward this to someone who does, I would appreciate the effort.
Best Regards
